Growing Your Church: Church Furniture Makes A Difference
Padded Church ChairAs a whole, church attendance is on the decline in our country.  Over the last 30-40 years, churches have steadily reported drops in attendance on Sunday morning.  This has led many churches to take some personal inventory on what they can do better.  One of the ways many churches have decided to revamp their structure is by updating their church furniture. In the past, people would walk into a church and take a seat in one of the pews.  A church pew was commonplace in most church buildings.  However, in order to move with the times and incorporate features that are more modern, comfortable seating is becoming one of the largest demands in churches.  It is also one of the things that draws in a crowd every Sunday morning. There is a psychological tie between the type of seating a church offers and how people feel about that church.  A comfortable church chair will attract more people because those people feel a sense of welcome from the moment they sit down.  When given the choice between a hard pew and a comfortable and cushiony chair, most church-goers will choose nice chairs. As more and more churches attempt to modify their building's to appeal to their congregation, they are also keeping in mind the thoughts and feelings of those who are unchurched.  Modern church furniture has a certain appeal to it that will continue to bring in more people as churches make these changes. It's a good idea to periodically take inventory of your church building.  Try to look at it from the point of view of an outsider.  What are the things that a visitor might see that are unappealing to them?  How could you make changes to make your building appear more visitor-friendly?
