Together We Shine: Casting Light on School Psychologists This Week

This week (November 7-11, 2022) the National Association of School Psychologists celebrates and brings awareness to both the contributions and important work that school psychologists do for students across the nation each and every day. After several challenging years, this year’s theme, Together We Shine, focuses on how working together we can shine hope and healing among our communities, schools, families, students, and colleagues.

Suggested Activities for National School Psychologists Week

National School Psychology Week (NSPW) is a fun, easy way to recognize and highlight the vital work that school psychologists and other educators do to help all students thrive! There are several ways schools can get involved with National School Psychologists Week, including, but not limited to, the following suggestions from the NPSW website:

  • Have students engage in the "Three Good Things" writing activity to start each day off on a positive note. Each day of the week, students will jot down their three good things and have something to reflect on Friday.
  • Recognize students who go above and beyond to support their goals and their peers with the Student POWER Award, or create a special award, just for your school!
  • Create a "Together We Shine" bulletin board, and encourage students to write a note describing how their shine contributes to the brightness of your campus as a whole!
  • "Treat Yourself and Others" with words of encouragement for staff members. Create a bank of keywords, print them out, attach a little treat, and surprise your hardworking staff!
  • Continue to encourage all staff members (not just your teachers) to "create critical connections" with their students. Different personalities mesh better with different people. There is no way to tell which adult will be able to make a meaningful, professional, connection with an at-risk student.
